Vertical Gardening...Growing Plants In Mid-air?

Vertical Gardening IS NOT a new extreme sport..dude. Ahh, to dream though; a rough and tumble experience fueled by an intense 20,000 foot aerial free-fall dominated by a competitive task like designing, planting and prepping (for retail sale) a 5 inch ceramic potter stuffed with tender, new 'silver' Tidal Wave Petunias and cut-and-come-again Zinnias.

This would definitely be taking gardening to a whole new level and sounds kind of fun. No, Vertical Gardening is exactly what the name suggests; growing flowers/ vegetables in an up and down direction - rather than the traditional side-to-side method used over the past several thousand years. There are many methods currently being used and many more tested daily. Read More.
Select Green walls contain some sort of growing medium, some do not. Some sport traditional setups while others are pure Hydro. This area of gardening is REALLY heating up and all of this truly a real pleasure (to me) to observe from the sidelines as new and existing entrants in the space duke it out for their slice of the green pie.

Vertical gardening is known by many different names like; green facades, creating green or living walls and many other new buzz words popping up nearly every day as this HOT trend seems poised to explode on to the scene much sooner than later. This is a truly fascinating concept that has countless applications and positive implications. I have created an "online radar" to notify myself electronically whenever an article, press release, product or ever-so slight mention is made on the subject anywhere on the web. I expect to actively cover and discuss this exciting, burgeoning new space here on my blog long into the future. I hope to attract other like-minded individuals here to share and discuss new findings and issues in this currently little known sub area of the ever changing gardening niche.

The folks over at WhereILive.com.au sum this up very well in their recent article "Vertical Gardens Become Popular". Enjoy the link!
